Des Moines, IA – Today, our campaign announced the Iowa Catholics for Romney coalition. Over 100 Iowa Catholics join with Governor Terry Branstad and Congressman Steve King in supporting Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan.
“As a life-long Catholic, I learned very early that we must love our neighbors as we love ourselves,” said Congressman Paul Ryan. “That principle has informed my life in public service, and I am pleased to have so many leaders in the faith supporting Mitt Romney and me in this election. We understand that policymakers must target the root causes of poverty with reforms that promote economic growth and opportunity. Free enterprise and strong communities remain the best means to promote upward mobility and help individuals escape the trap of government dependency. It is an honor to support Governor Romney as he advances solutions that champion the dignity of every human being. That is a goal that people of all faiths can support.”
“Iowa Catholics know that we can’t afford another four years under President Obama’s debt-driven policies. President Obama cannot defend his record because his policies have failed to turn around our national economy, and a second term has a promised $1 trillion tax increase and more chronic unemployment,” said Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. “Catholics also know that President Obama continues to threaten the fundamental religious freedoms our founding fathers fought to protect. Iowa’s vibrant Catholic community stands with Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan because we know they are the ticket with a real plan to reduce our deficit, grow our economy, and preserve the freedom to live our faith.”
