Obama Unveils New TV Ad Touting Obama’s Universal Health Care Plan

Obama to Host ‘Senior Town Hall’ in Ames on Friday Afternoon
Unveils New TV Ad Touting Obama’s Universal Health Care Plan

DES MOINES – The presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama today announced he will host a “Senior Town Hall Meeting” – bringing together senior citizens and high schools seniors -- in Ames tomorrow.  At the meeting, Obama will answer questions and participate in a conversation about his vision for uniting Americans, young and old, behind the effort to change Washington.

“Americans of all ages, from high school seniors to senior citizens, are tired of being divided by Washington politicians looking to score political points,” Obama said.  “We’re building a grassroots movement of generations of Americans who are ready to challenge the divisive, special interest-driven system in Washington and unite the country around our shared values.”

Obama’s campaign will also begin airing a new 30-second television ad in Iowa on Friday in which Obama highlights his commitment to changing the system in Washington and reforming our nation’s health care system.  The ad, titled “Mother”, opens with Obama talking directly to the camera about how his mother was burdened by a failing health care system as she battled cancer during the last few months of her life.  To view the ad: click here.

“For twenty years Washington’s talked about health care reform and reformed nothing,” Obama says in the ad.  “I’ve got a plan to cut costs and cover everyone.  But unless we stop the bickering and the lobbyists, we’ll be in the same place 20 years from now.”

On Friday, the Quad City Times will publish an op-ed from Senator Obama in which he writes about his commitment to strengthening Social Security and firmly opposing any effort to privatize Social Security.

Obama Campaign Announces New TV Advertisement "Believe"

Obama Campaign Announces State Leadership Committee and New TV Advertisement In Advance of Statewide Canvass

DES MOINES – The Obama for America Campaign today announced a 164-member State Leadership Committee (SLC) to lead grassroots organizing efforts for Barack Obama’s Iowa campaign.  The SLC will immediately begin reaching out to local communities by helping to organize the Obama Campaign’s statewide canvass this Saturday, September 22nd.

“Barack Obama is the best candidate to strengthen our communities and bring our country together,” said Iowa’s first female Supreme Court justice, Linda Neuman.  “I trust his leadership and judgment which guided him to stand up against the war in Iraq when others in Washington wouldn’t.  As president, Barack Obama will use that same leadership and judgment to tackle the tough issues we face like bringing our troops home and providing affordable, high-quality health care for all Americans.”

Statewide Leadership Committee members from across Iowa will advise the campaign and organize in their local communities. The SLC is comprised of community leaders across the state committed to spreading Barack Obama’s message of unity and hope for our country.

“As a community organizer, I understand the importance of local leaders and everyday people coming together to spark the change we so desperately need,” Senator Obama said.  “That’s why I’m so proud to have the support of these Iowans who have agreed to join me as we work to challenge the status quo in Washington, D.C. and transform our country.”

To supplement Barack Obama’s strong grassroots operation, the campaign also announced the airing of a new television ad titled Believe that details Senator Obama’s experience taking on lobbyists and bringing Democrats and Republicans together to solve the tough problems our country faces.

New Barack Obama Iowa TV Ad "Believe" Script

Every time I speak about my hope for America, the cynics in Washington roll their eyes.

You see, they don't believe we can actually change politics and bring an end to decades of division and deadlock. They don't believe we can limit the power of lobbyists who block our progress, or that we can trust the American people with the truth.

And that’s why we face the same problems and hear the same promises every four years.

My experience tells me something very different.

In twenty years of public service, I've brought Democrats and Republicans together to solve problems that touch the lives of everyday people.

I've taken on the drug and insurance companies and won. I defied the politics of the moment, and opposed the war in Iraq before it began.

This is Barack Obama. I approve this message to ask you to believe -- not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington. I'm asking you to believe in yours.

Romney For President Launches New Television Ad, "Change Begins With Us"

Romney For President Launches New Television Ad, "Change Begins With Us"

Boston, MA – Today, Romney for President launched its newest television ad, "Change Begins With Us." The ad features Governor Romney talking directly about his belief that change in Washington begins with his fellow Republicans putting their house in order. The Republican Party needs to return to its core conservative principles on issues like fiscal responsibility, ending illegal immigration and upholding ethical standards. By returning to these principles and bringing conservative change to Washington, Republicans and Governor Romney can build a stronger America.

The ad will begin airing as part of the campaign's rotation today in New Hampshire and Iowa later in the week. Script and viewing link are below.

Script For "Change Begins With Us" (TV:30):

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY: "If we're going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order.

"We can't be like Democrats – a party of big spending.

"We can't pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration.

"We can't have ethical standards that are a punch line for Jay Leno.

"When Republicans act like Democrats, America loses.

"It's time for Republicans to start acting like Republicans.

"It's time for a change and change begins with us.

"I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message."

Clinton Launches New Ad In IA, NH Touting Commitment To Universal Health Care

Clinton Launches New Ad in IA, NH Touting Commitment to Universal Health Care

Clinton to Hold Live Webcast TONIGHT to Discuss Health Care Plan; Will Field Questions from Americans across the Country

New Poll: Dems Back Hillary on Health Care

A day after releasing a comprehensive plan to provide quality, affordable coverage to all Americans, the Clinton Campaign is launching a new television ad in Iowa and New Hampshire this morning detailing Hillary’s efforts over the last few decades to expand health coverage for all Americans.

Hillary also holds a live webcast tonight at 8PM and will answer live questions about her plan.

The new 30-second spot, entitled “Health Care Plan,” details Hillary’s experience on the health care issue, focusing on her efforts to pass universal health care in the early 1990s and her perseverance in championing the Children’s Health Insurance Program that now covers more than 6 million children a year. It also talks about her successful effort to get the drug companies to lower the cost of vaccinations to make sure every child in America gets a healthy start.

Hillary’s American Health Choices plan unveiled yesterday would improve quality and lower cost while preserving consumer choices. For those who like their health insurance, they could keep it. For the 47 million uninsured and those who don’t like their health care coverage, they could choose from a range of private plans or a public plan modeled on Medicare. To read more about Hillary’s health care plan, visit www.hillaryclinton.com/healthcare .

The CBS News poll released last night reveals that Democrats back Hillary on health care and consider her experience on the issue to be a major asset.  Democrats view Hillary more favorably on the health care issue than any of the other Democrats seeking the nomination, with 61 percent are confident she will make the right decisions for the country on health care policy. Two-thirds of all voters think her experience on the issue helps her.

Following is the script for the ad:

HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT

“Health Care Plan”

9/18/07

Voice Over: She changed our thinking when she introduced universal health care to America.

She changed the lives of six million kids when she championed the bill that gave them health insurance.

And she changed future generations by pushing the drug companies to lower the cost of vaccinations.

Now she has a health care plan that lets you keep your coverage if you like it, provides affordable choices if you don’t and covers every American.

So if you¹re ready for change, she’s ready to lead.

Edwards Addresses Nation In Response To President Bush’s Iraq Plan

EDWARDS ADDRESSES NATION IN RESPONSE TO BUSH’S IRAQ PLAN
First time a candidate for president has used a national televised address to rebut Bush on Iraq

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards addressed the nation this evening in a televised response to President Bush’s speech on Iraq.  In his address, which aired on MSNBC after President Bush’s remarks, Edwards reminded the American people that Congress can – and must – force an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq. Edwards’ comments marked the first time a presidential candidate has used a national televised address to speak to the American people about President Bush’s refusal to change course in Iraq.

“Our troops are stuck between a president without a plan to succeed and a Congress without the courage to bring them home,” Edwards said in the address. “Supporting our troops and pursuing a failed war are not the same things – whatever George Bush would have us believe.  All Americans honor the incredible sacrifice of our troops. They have done everything asked of them with courage and resolve. Now we should bring them home.”

In the address Edwards said that the only way to force the Iraqis to take responsibility and negotiate a political solution is to begin withdrawing troops – immediately.  Edwards criticized President Bush for refusing to change “the only strategy he has ever had – more time, more troops and more war.”

Edwards concluded his remarks by reminding the American people that Congress must answer to them. “Tell Congress you know the truth – they have the power to end this war and you expect them to use it,” said Edwards. “When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal.  No timeline, no funding. No excuses.”

Edwards has been a leader in calling on Congress to stand firm against the president – and this isn’t the first time he’s asked the American people to join him in this call. In May, Edwards launched a groundbreaking multimedia ad campaign, entitled “We the People,” which featured regular Americans urging Congress not to back down to President Bush’s veto and to continue to send him Iraq funding bills containing a timeline for withdrawal.

Full transcript below.

-30-

This week - as we will forever - we remember those lost on September 11th. And this week, Washington refocuses on Iraq. But the question of Iraq is separate from September 11th – as it has always been, whatever George Bush would have us believe.

Likewise, supporting our troops and pursuing a failed war are not the same things – whatever George Bush would have us believe.

All Americans honor the incredible sacrifice of our troops. They have done everything asked of them with courage and resolve. Now we should bring them home.

They are policing a civil war, and the only way to end that civil war is for both sides, Sunni and Shia, to take responsibility to end it by agreeing to a political solution. And the only way to force them to take responsibility is to withdraw our troops – starting now.

Unfortunately, the president is pressing on with the only strategy he has ever had – more time, more troops and more war.

In January, after years of evidence that military actions cannot force a political solution, the president announced a military surge to force a political solution. In May, he vetoed a plan to end the war, demanded more time to show the surge could work, and Congress gave it to him. Now, after General Petraeus reports the surge has produced no progress toward a political solution, what does the president want? More time for the surge to work, when we know it won't.

Our troops are stuck between a president without a plan to succeed and a Congress without the courage to bring them home.

But Congress must answer to the American people. Tell Congress you know the truth - they have the power to end this war and you expect them to use it. When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal.

No timeline, no funding. No excuses.

It is time to end this war.

New TV Ad Emphasizes Governor Bill Richardson as the Candidate of Change And Experience

New TV Ad Emphasizes Governor Bill Richardson as the Candidate of Change And Experience

Richardson only candidate to call for all troops out of Iraq

SANTA FE, NM -- In the last Democratic Presidential debate in Iowa, Governor Bill Richardson said it best, "You know, I think that Senator Obama does represent change. Senator Clinton has experience. Change and experience: With me, you get both."

Today the Richardson for President Campaign released a new television ad in Iowa called "Offers". The spot emphasizes that Bill Richardson is the only candidate in the race who brings both change and experience to the Presidential race despite the fact that other candidates may be "borrowing" the phrase.

The ad recounts Governor Richardson's unparalleled experience and record of achievement in foreign policy. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize four times and recently helped negotiate the shutdown of North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

"At a time when our nation faces the most serious global and domestic challenges in its history, and the next President must repair the extensive damage done by the current administration, no one is more qualified or prepared to lead than Bill Richardson," campaign manager Dave Contarino said.

The new ad also reinforces that Governor Richardson is the only major candidate with a detailed plan to get all US troops out of Iraq, leaving behind no residual forces.

"There are serious differences among the candidates on Iraq," Contarino said. "Governor Richardson is the only major candidate with a responsible, urgent plan to end the Iraq War with a total US withdrawal and extensive, US-led diplomacy. The other major candidates still have not leveled with the American people as to how many troops they would leave in Iraq and for how long."

Bill Richardson was elected seven times to the US Congress and served as US Ambassador to the United Nations and Secretary of Energy. He is currently in his second term as Governor of New Mexico after winning reelection by a historic margin.

The latest Iowa poll by the American Research Group shows Governor Richardson at 13%, solidly in contention several months before the state's caucuses.

Change & Experience: New Hillary Clinton TV Ad

Change & Experience: The Ad

As summer turns to autumn, Change is in the air.

The question that voters are asking is: who can best deliver it?

With its Labor Day kickoff and now the release of a new ad, “ Change ,” in Iowa and New Hampshire, the Clinton campaign is making clear, as Hillary said on the stump this week, “Change is just a word without the strength and experience to make it happen.”  She has outlined how she would be the best able to get results, saying that change takes the right mix of knowing how and when to find common ground and when to stand your ground.

The new ad conveys that Hillary is uniquely able to deliver the change Americans want:  ending the war in Iraq, passing universal health coverage, making America energy independent.

By touting Hillary’s experiences as a change agent, the Clinton campaign is making clear that to make change happen, you need the kind of strength and experience Hillary has accrued during her more than 35 years of advocacy (as illustrated in today’s New York Times story about Hillary’s college years).

Multiple polls are validating this point: Last month’s CNN poll revealed that despite the efforts of others to portray themselves as change agents, 40 percent think Clinton is the candidate most likely to actually bring change – a finding that places her well ahead of the other candidates.  The June NBC/WSJ poll, 61% of Democrats and Democratic primary voters are very confident that Hillary would bring real change to the direction of the country.  Among those for whom change is most important – working middle-class and low-income families, seniors, working women, and people without health care – Hillary is viewed as the most effective champion.

Today’s ad echoes these themes and touches on the four goals for change Hillary has been discussing on the campaign trail: Restoring America’s leadership in the world; rebuilding the middle class economy; reclaiming the future for our children; and bringing back the values of integrity, fairness and tolerance in America.

By offering voters “big goals for change” imbued with a case for why she is the candidate best able to achieve that change, Hillary is making a clear case for why she is the best choice for Democratic voters who want to make change happen in 2008.
