Edwards Campaign Unveils New Television And Radio Ads In South Carolina

AS RIVALS CONTINUE TO TEAR EACH OTHER APART, THE “GROWN UP” WING OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY RELEASES TWO NEW ADS
Edwards campaign unveils new television and radio ads in South Carolina one day before voters head to the polls

Columbia, South Carolina – As Senators Clinton and Obama continue to squabble, the John Edwards for President campaign today released two new ads in South Carolina focusing on the issues that really matter to the American people in this election.

The new 30-second television spot “Grown Up” includes clips from last Monday’s South Carolina debate where Senators Clinton and Obama launch viscous personal attacks against each other. These attacks are contrasted with Edwards’ “grown up” response where he reminds voters that this election is not about us personally – but rather “what we are trying to for this country.”

In the new radio ad, “What Really Matters,” Edwards says he is “proud to represent the grown up wing of the Democratic Party.”

“While Senator Clinton and Senator Obama seem intent on tearing each other down, I'm intent on building you up,” Edwards says in the 60-second ad. “And, as your President, I'll fight everyday to strengthen the middle class, create good paying jobs, stop unfair trade deals, and make our government work for the American people, not for a bunch of irresponsible corporations.”

Today, on the last day before the primary, Edwards is campaigning across South Carolina to meet with voters and tell them, as president, he will never forget the voices of South Carolina’s working families. Joined by James Lowe, his parents Bobbie and Wallace Edwards, his daughter, Cate, and Rev. James Blassingame of Sumter, South Carolina, Edwards is discussing his bold plans to make sure America’s working families have a voice in Washington.

Transcripts are included below.

“Grown Up,” (30 seconds – television)

SENATOR OBAMA: While I was working on those streets, you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board of Wal-Mart.

SENATOR CLINTON: I was fighting against those ideas when you were practicing law and representing your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago.

EDWARDS: This kind of squabbling - how many children is this gonna get health care? How many people are gonna get an education from this? This is not about us personally. It is about what we are trying to do for this country.

I'm John Edwards and I approve this message.

“What Really Matters” (60 seconds – radio)

ANNOUNCER:  The middle class is being squeezed.  An economic crisis looms.  Our nation is at war.  And too many Americans have no health care.

And what do we get from two Washington politicians running for President?

Nasty squabbling and personal attacks.

It's time we had a grown up in the White House who understands us and will actually get something done for the middle class.

EDWARDS: I'm John Edwards and I approved this message because I'm proud to represent the grown up wing of the Democratic Party.

While Senator Clinton and Senator Obama seem intent on tearing each other down, I'm intent on building you up.

This campaign isn't about us personally.  It's about what we're trying to do for this country.

I understand the struggles middle class families face, just like mine did right here in South Carolina.

And, as your President, I'll fight everyday to strengthen the middle class, create good paying jobs, stop unfair trade deals, and make our government work for the American people, not for a bunch of irresponsible corporations.

It's time we had a President who will stand up for the American people.

ANNOUNCER: Paid for by John Edwards for President.

ST. PAUL – The Obama for Minnesota campaign today launched introductory statewide television and radio ads. The ads will educate Minnesotans about the Feb. 5 caucuses and let them learn more about Obama’s vision for bringing change we can believe in.

“Minnesotans see that Barack Obama is the one leader with a plan to turn around our struggling economy and make sure we have good jobs that pay a living wage, the strength to end this war in Iraq, and the ability to bring universal health care to every American,” Obama Campaign Minnesota Co-Chair Rep. The ads complement Obama’s aggressive grassroots organizing that began in October.

Thus far, the campaign has recruited approximately 600 volunteers who have logged approximately 4,000 volunteer hours. The campaign has opened seven offices and engaged 45,000 Minnesotans in conversations about Barack Obama’s vision for bringing real change and restoring our standing in the world.  The Obama campaign was the first to open an office in Minnesota and the first to air television and radio ads.

John McCain 2008 Launches New Television Ad In Florida: "Protect"

JOHN MCCAIN 2008 LAUNCHES NEW TELEVISION AD IN FLORIDA: "PROTECT"

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today released a new television ad to run in Florida. Script For "Protect" (:30-TV)

JOHN MCCAIN: Floridians are concerned about the threat of radical Islamic extremism and their economic security.

There's no one more qualified to meet our national security threats.

I've been dealing with these issues my entire adult life.

I'll make the Bush tax cuts permanent, reduce taxes on 25 million middle class families, and veto wasteful government spending.

There's no one who will work harder to protect our shores and protect your pocketbooks.

I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

Hillary Pledges To Stand Up For South Carolinians Who Are “Falling Through” The Current Economy

Hillary Pledges To Stand Up For South Carolinians Who Are “Falling Through” The Current Economy

(COLUMBIA) In a new thirty second television ad Hillary highlights her commitment to standing up for Americans “Falling Through” the Bush economy-- not the oil companies funding terrorism, the predatory student loan companies making college graduates swim in sea of debt, or the insurance and drug companies who take advantage of the blue collar diabetics or elderly cancer survivors.

Hillary believes that investing in American alternative fuels will establish a green, efficient economy and create as many as five million new jobs, while at the same time reduce America's reliance on foreign oil and address the looming climate crisis. South Carolina cannot afford to pay three dollars a gallon when that money is going straight to the middle east, not in our own economy.

As an advocate for education for the past 35 years, Hillary believes in the power of education to lift people up and give them more opportunities. Her plans will ensure that no high school senior gets an unfair advantage based on their parent’s ability to save. She has proposed a $3,500 college tax credit and an increase to the Pell Grant. Further, in a proposal aimed at spurring volunteerism and public service, she offers up to a $10,000 college scholarship for those who participate in AmeriCorps full-time for one year.

To protect the millions of Americans who live in fear of losing their homes in 2008, Hillary has called for a moratorium of at least 90 days on home foreclosures; a freeze on the fluctuating rates on subprime loans for at least 5 years until they can be converted into fixed rate, affordable loans; and regular status reports on the progress in converting unworkable mortgages into loans families can.

And Hillary’s health care plan will not pick and chose only the rich and healthy like insurance companies in the past have. It will be affordable, unlike the current health system where insurance premiums send some into bankruptcy, as the plan provides tax credits for working families to help cover costs. It will be available, and no matter what, Hillary will not let insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. Finally, it will be reliable so that lay offs or jobs won’t leave Americans unprotected.

"Falling Through"

TV: 30

Clinton: The Bush economy is like a trapdoor.

Too many families are one pink slip, one missed mortgage payment, one medical diagnosis away from falling through and losing everything.

The oil companies, the predatory student loan companies, the insurance companies and the drug companies, have had seven years of a president who stands up for them.

I intend to be a president who stands up for all of you.

I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

New TV Spot Highlights Why John Edwards Is The Best Candidate To Fight For Change

NEW TV SPOT HIGHLIGHTS WHY JOHN EDWARDS IS THE BEST CANDIDATE TO FIGHT FOR CHANGE

Edwards campaign begins airing new television spot in South Carolina that draws contrasts between Edwards and his competitors

Columbia, South Carolina – Today, the John Edwards for President campaign began airing a new 30-second television spot in the Palmetto State to highlight how Senator Edwards is the only Democratic presidential candidate who will stand up to the drug companies and powerful Washington lobbyists and fight for hard-working middle class families.

The ad begins with photographs of Senator Clinton and Senator Obama on the screen as the narrator states, “One gets more money than anyone from drug companies. The other one takes more money than anyone from Washington lobbyists. What’s happened to the Democratic Party? Whatever happened to the party of the people?”

As the visuals switch to a montage of crowds at Edwards’ campaign events and images of Senator Edwards working to rebuild a home in New Orleans and greeting supporters, the narrator continues, “The only one who’s never taken a dime from PACs or Washington lobbyists, who knows we’ve been ignored too long, who knows that rebuilding the middle class is more important that politics - our John Edwards. The only one.”

Born to a working class family in South Carolina and raised in small, rural mill towns, Edwards has spent his life taking on powerful interests on behalf of hard-working families like the ones he grew up with. He has never taken a dime from Washington lobbyists or PACs, and has pledged that he will ban corporate lobbyists from serving in his White House. As president, he will only support smart and safe trade deals, opposing trade deals that put the profits of multinational corporations ahead of the needs of hard-working families.

Tomorrow, Edwards will set off on a two-day “Back Roads, Back Home Barnstorm” of South Carolina’s small towns and rural communities to bring attention to the millions of rural Americans who, for too long, have been forgotten by Washington politicians. During the tour, Edwards will be joined by longtime activist and actor Danny Glover, Congressman Heath Shuler, former Congressman and Dukes of Hazzard star Ben “Cooter” Jones and Bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley.  During the barnstorm, Edwards will visit volunteer firefighters, stop by diners and discuss his bold plans for change with South Carolinians.

Edwards is the only candidate in the race who was born in South Carolina and he is the only Democratic candidate to ever win in a “red” state. Edwards leads the Democratic field in both campaign stops and money raised in the Palmetto State, and his campaign boasts an impressive statewide grassroots organization strengthened by deep support from Edwards’ 2004 campaign.

Transcript of “What Happened” (30 seconds):
Narrator: One gets more money than anyone from drug companies.
The other one takes more money than anyone from Washington lobbyists.
What’s happened to the Democratic Party?
Whatever happened to the party of the people?
Good question.
The only one who’s never taken a dime from PACs or Washington lobbyists
Who knows we’ve been ignored too long.
Who knows that rebuilding the middle class is more important that politics.
Our John Edwards.
The only one.

John Edwards: I’m John Edwards and I approve this message.
