Congressman Tancredo Statement Announcing His Candidacy For President

Congressman Tancredo Statement Announcing His Candidacy for President

The history of America is the story of men and women who have devoted and sacrificed themselves to the survival and success of that idea. Americans have fought and died for this cause in every century of our existence, and on every continent on the planet, for one purpose: to protect the gift of human liberty entrusted to us the Founders.

That gift is our birthright; its defense is our duty.

Today that idea, the idea of America itself, is under attack. But not only by who you think.

While we fight around the world to defend our nation, we are entrenched now in a struggle here at home to define it. The crisis of illegal immigration threatens not only our economy and our security, but our very identity - the idea of America is under attack.

Nearly 20 million illegal aliens are living in the United States today - roughly equivalent to the populations of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Philadelphia combined. Unlike legal immigrants, who have for more than 200 years come to be a part of our nation, illegal immigrants today come to be apart from our nation.

The great tradition of American assimilation has broken down. The melting pot has cracked, and our Founding ideals are leaking through.

Illegal immigrants wait in no lines, pay no dues, and thus assume no responsibility for or devotion to America's founding ideals and traditional values. They enter illegally, demand social services, refuse our language, and take our jobs, asking not what they can do for their country, only what our country can do for them.

This attitude has been tolerated and even encouraged by our political and economic elite, for reasons ranging from the misguided to the cynical to the treasonous.

Some might ask what it says about a country who cannot defend its borders. I ask what it says about a country who chooses not to in deference to criminals loyal to another nation, and corporations loyal to none.

For too long Americans have been force-fed candidates who ignore or mock their valid concerns about the security of our borders, the enforcement of our immigration laws, and the survival of our national heritage. That ends today.

I am running for President to give Americans a voice, to win this fight, to preserve the sacred ideals of the nation our soldiers are fighting to protect, and to succeed in this struggle for our identity and survival.

One last chance for the last, best, hope of earth.

John McCain 2008 Campaign Announces First Quarter Fundraising Numbers

JOHN MCCAIN 2008 CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER FUNDRAISING NUMBERS

ARLINGTON, VA – John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced first quarter fundraising numbers:

During the first quarter of 2007, John McCain 2008 campaign received nearly 60,000 contributions from all 50 states, averaging $200 per contribution.  The McCain campaign will report over $12.5 million in contributions for the first quarter.

Campaign Manager Terry Nelson said, “Although we are pleased with the organization we’ve built and polls show us strongly positioned in key primary states, we had hoped to do better in first quarter fundraising.  We are already in the process of taking the necessary steps to ensure fundraising success moving forward.”  Nelson added, “Fundraising in the first quarter is no more important than fundraising throughout the entire primary election campaign.”

Dodd Positioned Well After Strong First Quarter

DODD POSITIONED WELL AFTER STRONG FIRST QUARTER
Receipts of $9 million in first quarter, $7.5 million cash on hand, builds deep operations in key states

Washington - Posting strong numbers for the first fundraising quarter of 2007, presidential candidate Chris Dodd continued his aggressive push towards the Democratic nomination Monday. His campaign cited their strong organization in key primary states as well as Dodd's ability to connect with voters as key reasons for their satisfying first quarter.

"Our campaign is on path, both financially and organizationally, to give Chris Dodd the resources he'll need to get his message of proven leadership and results delivered out to the American people," said Dodd Campaign Manager Sheryl Cohen. "Chris Dodd's unique combination of proven leadership, delivering results on behalf of American families and his personality are connecting with voters nationwide. That's why he's in such a strong position today, and will continue to prove a formidable candidate as we move forward."

Dodd posted total receipts of $9 million for the first quarter ending March 31st, including over $4 million raised since the beginning of the year and $5 million transferred from his Senate account. Dodd also reported $7.5 million cash on hand.

In addition to posting a strong financial quarter, Dodd has built deep and experienced organizations in key primary and caucus states in a matter of months since his announcement.

"Our campaign has proven that we can go from zero to 60 in just a couple short months. As pleased as we are with our levels of financial support, this campaign is just as strong on the ground. And in key states across the country, the Dodd campaign is better organized and more experienced than our competitors," said spokeswoman Christy Setzer.

In Iowa, Dodd recently made some widely praised staff hires, including Democratic activist Marc Beltrame as state director, and Taylor West, former campaign press secretary to newly-elected Governor Chet Culver, as state press secretary. In New Hampshire, Dodd announced the endorsement of former Congressman Norman D'Amours. He will return to the state this week, meeting with college students to address their concerns of rising tuition costs.

Dodd also has impressed at Presidential forums where observers have noted that his depth of understanding of the issues and his experience have set him apart from the field. In the coming months, Dodd will continue to highlight his unique qualifications with a series of major policy speeches and at the first Presidential debates. He will also distinguish himself from the rest of the field in the second quarter with a series of face-to-face conversations with voters, which he's calling his "Kitchen Table Campaign."

Dodd's efforts this quarter have won him praise from voters and pundits alike, putting him in a strong position going into the rest of the campaign.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - The John Edwards for President campaign announced today that California Democratic leader John Burton endorsed Senator John Edwards for President and will help lead Edwards' campaign in California.
