RNC Chairman Mike Duncan At Official Office Opening For The 2008 Republican National Convention

RNC Chairman Mike Duncan

Chairman of the Republican National Committee Mike Duncan was in Minneapolis-Saint Paul on Wednesday, Sept. 12, to participate in the official opening of the convention's headquarters. Speaking to a room full of convention staff and community leaders, Duncan said, "Just under a year from now, our Party will gather here in Minnesota to launch one of the most important campaigns of our lifetime. We’ll have the eyes of the world on us. Americans from Maine to New Mexico, from Hawaii to South Carolina, will be watching...They’re going to be watching as we lay out our vision for a bright future. They’re going to be watching as we talk about our historic principles. And, most importantly, they’re going to be watching as we formally nominate the next President and Vice President of the United States of America."

Jacksonville Mayor Endorses Mitt Romney

JACKSONVILLE MAYOR JOHN PEYTON AND JACKSONVILLE LEADERS ENDORSE GOVERNOR ROMNEY

Boston, MA – Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced that Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, former U.S. Ambassador John Rood and State Representative Don Davis have endorsed his candidacy for President of the United States.  Additionally, Governor Romney named several new Jacksonville community and business leaders to his Florida Statewide Finance Committee.  These individuals join a strong team that includes Romney for President National Finance Chairmen Mark Guzzetta and Ambassador Mel Sembler.

"I am pleased to have such tremendous support in Jacksonville, one of the fastest growing cities in Florida and a critical area for Republican candidates," said Governor Romney.  "I share the same conservative values as many Northeast Floridians, and Mayor Peyton and all of these leaders will provide important counsel as I continue to campaign vigorously in the Sunshine State."

Northeast Floridians leading Governor Romney's campaign in the state include Florida Steering Committee Chair John Thrasher, former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and Steering Committee Co-Chair Jennifer Carroll, a state legislator representing parts of Duval and Clay Counties.  Additional area leadership includes State Representative Dick Kravitz, Jacksonville City Councilman Art Shad and former Jacksonville City Councilman Lake Ray.  Previously announced Northeast Florida members of the Florida Statewide Finance Committee include Ward Blakely, Gary Chartrand, Henry Dean, J. Thomas Dodson, Mori Hosseini, Mitchell R. Montgomery and Duane Ottenstroer.

"In Massachusetts, Governor Romney applied conservative principles and successful private sector practices to grow the economy and restrain state spending.  As President, Governor Romney will bring this same strong and innovative leadership to the White House as America faces new global and domestic challenges," said Mayor Peyton.  "I look forward to working with this impressive group of Jacksonville leaders to deliver victory for Governor Romney in Florida."

National Association of Letter Carriers Endorses Clinton

National Association of Letter Carriers Endorses Clinton

The Clinton Campaign today announced the endorsement of the National Association of Letter Carriers union. The NALC represents 300,000 active and retired city delivery carriers employed by the U.S. Postal Service in all 50 states.

“In the primary elections next year, you can count on letter carriers to deliver for Senator Clinton, and I am confident that in the years to come, President Hillary Clinton will deliver for every citizen throughout America,” said NALC President William H. Young. “Hillary Clinton has the strength and experience to deliver the change we need. She's ready to lead this country from her first day in the White House.”

Young cited Clinton’s strong support of postal reform legislation and noted she was among the first to support legislation to prohibit the contracting out of carrier jobs to low-wage contractors whose status is used to unfairly deny them health insurance and pension protection. She was the runaway winner of a national survey of NALC members.

“There is nobody better prepared to take up the battle for universal health insurance, and there is no one I would trust more than Senator Clinton to strengthen Social Security in order to keep the promises we have made as a nation to our retirees, our disabled workers and to their survivors,” Young said.

“I am honored to receive the support of the National Association of Letter Carriers,” Clinton said. “These hardworking men and women are part of the fabric of every community in America, and they deserve an advocate in the White House.”

Biden Remembers 9/11

BIDEN REMEMBERS 9/11

Wilmington, DE (September 11, 2007):  Sen. Joe Biden issued the following statement on the sixth anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

"Six years ago, our nation suffered a terrible tragedy. Today, on this solemn anniversary, we remember the thousands who lost their lives that fateful morning, and we offer our prayers to the family and friends they left behind.

“September 11, 2001, also brought to us enormous inspiration in the form of the many people who lined up for blocks and blocks, single-file, to give blood, even when they were told that blood was no longer needed. That American spirit of unity and sacrifice will enable us to overcome our challenges and emerge stronger, safer and more united than ever before.”

Statement From Fred Thompson To Commemorate September 11, 2001

Statement from Fred Thompson to Commemorate September 11, 2001

McLean, VA-Fred Thompson issued the following statement to commemorate September 11, 2001 and those who lost their lives:

"Six years have passed since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  Today is a day to remember those who lost their lives at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists who despise our values and way of life, as well as those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice helping their fellow citizens that tragic day, and defending freedom in the years that have followed.

"We must never forget that America has shed more blood defending freedom here and abroad than all the other countries in the world combined.  And it was no different on 9/11.  Before the twin towers fell, before the smoke had cleared from the Pentagon, before the brave men and women of Flight 93 had made a stand over Shanksville, Pennsylvania, Americans were fighting back.

"America's heritage of defending freedom has fallen to us. It is a great trust that our generation willingly accepts and must uphold.  But the best way we can do that - while honoring the tragic loss of our fellow citizens six years ago today, and in all of the years since - is to make sure our nation continues to stand for freedom, remains strong and united in the face of threats, and secure."
