Hillary Clinton's Statement On The AFT's Endorsement

Hillary Clinton's Statement On The AFT's Endorsement

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).  I want to thank AFT Vice Presidents Nat LaCour and Antonia Cortese, and the 1.4 million members and retireees of this great union who represent teachers; paraprofessionals and school-related personnel; local, state and federal employees; higher education faculty and staff; and nurses and other health care professionals.  Your support and leadership will be invaluable to the success of my campaign.

"I want to especially recognize Ed McElroy for his leadership.  For over 40 years, Ed has been a proud trade unionist and champion for teachers, students, and the basic ideal that all children have the right to a good education.  I am grateful for his efforts, not only on behalf of my campaign, but for his service to America.

"Teachers are on the frontlines of shaping the minds of our next generation.  With every child they teach, teachers help to ensure a brighter future for our country. In welcoming every child through your doors, in giving every child a chance to succeed, it's our public schools and teachers that transform that rhetoric into reality every single day.  Throughout my 35 years of working on education, I've seen the dedication that American teachers demonstrate day in and day out.  That is why as President, I want to be partners with teachers, parents, and administrators to improve our education system.  As President, I am committed to improving and strengthening our public schools, providing support for our teachers, and ensuring our education system is able to meet the needs of the global economy and that we have common sense laws that make that possible.

"In addition, I look forward to working with you to ensure that all Americans have affordable, quality health insurance. My plan will rein in costs, insist on value and quality, and ensure choice in health coverage for every American.

"Working together with you, I will also protect the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively, strengthen the defined benefit pension system, and invest in job creation and worker training.  I will sign the Employee Free Choice Act into law because I believe the right to organize is a fundamental right in this country.

"Expanding opportunity for our children has been my life's work, and it will be the work of my Presidency.  I will keep seeking you out and working in partnership with you to do what's best for our children, best for our educators, and best for the future of our country."

Committee on Arrangements Chairman: unique Emblem ‘Will Be Seen Around The World’

(SAINT PAUL, Minn.) – Party officials and convention organizers today unveiled the official logo for the 2008 Republican National Convention. The circular design features the silhouette of a triumphant elephant, a Party symbol dating back to 1874, along with the names of the host cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

“Choosing our logo is another important milestone in planning the 2008 Republican National Convention,” said convention President and Chief Executive Officer Maria Cino. “This design highlights the spirit of the Republican Party and it will adorn everything from the Xcel Energy Center to t-shirts and other souvenirs.”

“By the time our convention is complete, this emblem – much like our Republican nominee and future President of the United States – will have been seen by millions around the world,” RNC Co-Chairman and Convention Chairman Jo Ann Davidson said.

The logo was designed by New York City-based Creative Director Robert Matza. Matza has overseen many aspects of creative development for a broad range of corporate identity clients while at Landor Associates, including Morgan Stanley, GE, Pepsico, Computer Associates, New York Stock Exchange, Lenovo, Verizon, and Nielsen Media Research.

The 2008 Republican National Convention will be held at Saint Paul’s Xcel Energy Center from September 1-4, 2008.  Approximately 45,000 delegates, alternate delegates, members of the media and other guests are expected to attend the convention. Minneapolis-Saint Paul is expected to receive an estimated $150-$160 million positive economic boost from the four-day event.

Rudy Giuliani Campaign Launches New Radio Ad in New Hampshire Entitled, “Tested”

New York City - The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee today announced it will launch a new radio ad in New Hampshire, entitled “Tested.”   The ad focuses on Rudy Giuliani’s proven record of results, and his commitment to keep America on offense in the Terrorist’s War on Us and to grow the economy by cutting taxes and reducing the size of government.

Script for “Tested”:

RUDY:  “I’ve been tested in a way in which the American people can look to me. They’re not going to find perfection, but they’re gonna find somebody who’s dealt with crisis almost on a regular basis and has had results, results people thought were impossible.”

VO: Listen. That’s Rudy Giuliani. A leader with clearly defined goals.

RUDY:  “There are two big things at stake for the country… what direction we go in on terrorism and what direction we go in with regard to our domestic economy.  If you elect me we’re on offense against terrorism. And I want us to be on the offense for a growth economy in which we lower taxes, reduce the size of government… that’s how you create growth. “

VO:  Principle. Experience. Results. That’s Rudy.

RUDY:  “We laid out a very, very specific set of goals that we want to achieve because I want people to look at those and say if I agree with most of them, then this is a person who can bring them about.  And if they disagree with it, they should vote against me, because I am going to bring it about.

VO:  Rudy Giuliani.  The Republican that Democrats just don’t want to run against.

VO: Paid for by the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee, Incorporated.  joinudy2008.com

RUDY: I’m Rudy Giuliani and I approve this message.

Bill Clinton 1992 Announcement Anniversary

Clinton 1992Bill Clinton 1992 Announcement Speech at the Old State House, Little Rock, Arkansas on October 3, 1991.

"Thank you all for being here today, for your friendship and support, for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Governor for 11 years, for filling my life full of blessings beyond anything I ever deserved.

I want to thank especially Hillary and Chelsea for taking this big step in our life's journey together. Hillary, for being my wife, my friend, and my partner in our efforts to build a better future for the children and families of Arkansas and America. Chelsea, in ways she is only now coming to understand, has been our constant joy and reminder of what our public efforts are really all about: a better life for all who will work for it, a better future for the next generation.

All of you, in different ways, have brought me here today, to step beyond a life and a job I love, to make a commitment to a larger cause: Preserving the American Dream ... Restoring the hopes of the forgotten middle class... Reclaiming the future for our children.

That is why today I am declaring my candidacy for President of the United States. Together I believe we can provide leadership that will restore the American dream - that will fight for the forgotten middle class - that will provide more opportunity, Insist on more responsibility and create a greater sense of community for this great country.

This must be a campaign of ideas, not slogans. We don't need another President who doesn't know what he wants to do for America. I'm going to tell you in plain language what I intend to do as President. How we can meet the challenges we face - that's the test for all the Democratic candidates in this campaign. Americans know what we're against Let's show them what we're for.

I believe with all my heart that together, we can make this happen. We can usher in a new era of progress, prosperity and renewal. We can – we must. This is not just a campaign for the Presidency – it is a campaign for the future, for the forgotten hard-working middle class families of America who deserve a government that fights for them. A campaign to keep America strong at home and around the world. Join with us. I ask for your prayers, your help, your hands, and your hearts. Together we can make America great again, and build a community of hope that will inspire the world."

Biden Receives The Endorsement Of Daughter Of Harold Hughes

BIDEN RECEIVES THE ENDORSEMENT OF PHYLLIS HUGHES EWING DAUGHTER OF HAROLD HUGHES

Des Moines, IA (October 2, 2007) - The Biden for President campaign today announced the endorsement of Phyllis Hughes Ewing, daughter of former Iowa Governor and Senator Harold Hughes. Hughes was a revered Governor of Iowa and later a courageous United States Senator who took on the political establishment to help end the war in Vietnam.

“Sen. Biden best exemplifies the courage and the character of my father,” said Hughes Ewing.  “No American public official has worked harder or longer to end the senseless war in Iraq or to bring attention to the genocide occurring in Darfur.  Joe Biden is the right man to lead our country.”

“We are delighted to have Phyllis’ support for our campaign,” said Biden for President Political Director Danny O’Brien. “Her conviction in associating the characteristics that defined father’s greatness with Sen. Biden’s will touch Iowans in a way no other surrogate can.”

Sen. Biden, who served with Sen. Hughes in the U. S. Senate for two years following his election in 1972, expressed his appreciation to Hughes Ewing for her enthusiastic support.  “We miss her father in the Senate during this critical time in our history,” he said.  “We could use his powerful voice today in the cause of peace and justice.”

Hughes Ewing, in a letter to the editor published on Monday by the Des Moines Register, wrote that “this is not a time for the inexperienced to learn on the job, nor is it a time for leaders who do not have the ability to inspire the American people.  As Iowans, we have an awesome responsibility.  What we do on a cold night in January will largely determine who will be the next president of the United States. It is about Iowa Democrats having the courage to go against conventional wisdom and demand the best.”

Urging her fellow Iowans to join her in “helping Joe Biden become the next president of the United States,” Hughes Ewing challenged “the conventional wisdom in the national press that only money matters and our choices are limited” to the current frontrunners in the polls.  “Time after time, we’ve seen candidates, seemingly out of the running, emerge on caucus night to become the most serious contenders for the nomination.”
