Iowa State Senator Quirmbach Endorses Joe Biden

STATE SENATOR QUIRMBACH ENDORSES JOE BIDEN
JOE BIDEN IS “OUR BEST HOPE TO RESTORE AMERICA’S CREDIBILITY IN THE WORLD"

Des Moines, IA (November 6, 2007) – Last night at a house party in Ames, IA, Sen. Joe Biden received the endorsement of Iowa State Senator Herman C. Quirmbach. Senator Quirmbach becomes the twelfth Iowa State Legislator to endorse Senator Biden.

State Sen. Quirmbach is an Associate Professor of Economics at Iowa State University.

“We need to get out of Iraq, but after all the damage that Bush has done to that country, we owe it to them to leave them with some reasonable hope of stability,” said State Sen. Quirmbach.  “Joe Biden has the clearest vision of how to do both.  He’s our best hope to restore America’s credibility in the world, credibility we’re going to need if we’re going to lead on nuclear proliferation, terrorism, global warming, energy, and a host of other issues.”

Sen. Biden noted, "As someone with extensive knowledge of fiscal policy, Sen. Quirmbach knows well that America only does well when the middle class thrives economically.  Like many Americans, he is concerned for our economic security and knows the next president will have to make fiscally responsible decisions to put America back on track. Sen. Quirmbach knows what economic perils await if our if we continue to let the war in Iraq drain our Treasury, and I am proud that he has pledged to support my efforts to change course."

State Sen. Quirmbach joins an impressive group of Iowa state legislators who have endorsed Senator Biden including: State Sen. Joe Seng (Davenport), House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Des Moines), Speaker Pro Tempore Rep. Polly Butka (Clinton County), Rep. John Whitaker (Hillsboro), Rep. Doris Kelley (Waterloo), Rep. Lisa Heddens (Ames), Rep. Jim Lykam (Davenport), Rep. Mike Reasoner (Creston), Rep. Dick Taylor (Cedar Rapids), Rep. Roger Thomas (Clayton County), and Rep. McKinley Bailey (Hamilton County).

Senator Norm Coleman Endorses Rudy Giuliani For President

Senator Norm Coleman Endorses Rudy Giuliani for President

New York City – The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee announced today that Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) has formally endorsed Rudy Giuliani and will serve as the campaign’s Minnesota State Chairman and Midwest Regional Chairman.

“I have long respected and admired Rudy Giuliani,” said Senator Coleman.  "Rudy Giuliani and I share a strong bond as former Mayors.  We focused on bringing people together to get things done, and to ensure that our focus was on solutions, not problems.  I am confident that his vision and his strength as a candidate will give Republicans a strong voice in the November 2008 elections."

“I am honored to have the backing of Norm Coleman,” said Rudy Giuliani.  “Norm was an effective Mayor and serves the people of Minnesota well in the United States Senate.  I truly appreciate his continued friendship and support.”

Norm Coleman:
In 1993, Norm Coleman was elected Mayor of St. Paul as a Democrat. In 1996, he joined the Republican Party and was reelected in 1997 as the first Republican Mayor in St. Paul in over 25 years, receiving nearly 60% of the vote.

During his 8 years in office, he led the city through an economic rebirth.  In 1997 Coleman led an effort to secure a National Hockey League franchise for the city, the Minnesota Wild, which began play in September 2000 at a new state-of-the-art arena.

Norm Coleman was elected to the United States Senate in 2002.  He currently serves on several key committees including the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Nutrition, the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Foreign Relations Committee.

Coleman was born in Brooklyn, New York.  He is a graduate of Hofstra University on Long Island. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law. Coleman spent 17 years working for the Minnesota Attorney General's office, prosecuting cases all over the state and getting involved in a wide variety of public policy matters, including child abuse and drug abuse.

He is married to Laurie Coleman.  They have two children, Jacob and Sarah.

Lee Iacocca Endorses Bill Richardson For President

Lee Iacocca Endorses Bill Richardson for President
Former Chrysler CEO cites Richardson's leadership, management experience as primary factors behind endorsement

SANTA FE, NM-- New Mexico Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate Bill Richardson today was endorsed by former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca. Iacocca also appears in a new online ad on behalf of Governor Richardson's candidacy.

"Richardson's been a successful Governor," Iacocca said in a statement on his blog. "He's been a successful CEO. He's demonstrated that he knows how to negotiate with foreign leaders and lead on issues like global warming. Unlike others on the stump, he's offering bold plans, not just pandering talk. I like his jobs plan, his healthcare and energy plan, education plan and his plan to get us out of Iraq. I also just plain like the guy.

"While I believe every citizen should vote their own mind and conscience, I'd encourage you to take a long hard look at Bill Richardson for yourself. With his experience, character and vision, I believe he's the President we need right now."

Lee Iacocca is the founder of the Iacocca Foundation for diabetes research. A graduate of Lehigh University with a master's degree from Princeton University, he began his career at Ford Motor Company as an engineer but moved to sales shortly thereafter. Iacocca's innovative approach to the automotive industry led to his becoming President of Ford in 1970.

After a seven-year stint, he moved to Chrysler Corporation and became CEO at a time when the company was on the verge of bankruptcy. By taking short-term loans from the federal government and shifting the company's inventory to more fuel-efficient models, Iacocca had Chrysler turning record profits within six years. Since his retirement as CEO in 1992, Iacocca has been active in philanthropic projects around the world.

Governor Richardson thanked Iacocca for his support and promised to promote economic growth and the development of renewable energy sources as President.

"Lee Iacocca has lived the American dream," Richardson said. "He went to school, worked hard, and, with a bit of luck, brought his creative ideas to fruition. I am glad to have the support of such a legendary problem-solver.

"I want every child in America to have a chance to be the next Lee Iacocca, and education is the first step. I have proposed a comprehensive plan that spans from pre-kindergarten to career training to improve our children's competitiveness in the global economy. Next, we need to grow our economy and provide jobs. We do not need new taxes to keep Social Security viable; increasing the economy's growth rate will do the trick. Finally, to save our planet and decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, we must research and develop renewable energy sources. Global warming is a serious threat to the livability of our planet; America must lead the world by adhering to the Kyoto Protocol and working to improve fuel efficiency standards.

"As President, I will be a leader, even when it is unpopular. America will rejoin the international community. Together, we will take on the problems of the day and defeat them."

Edwards’ Campaign Launches First Major Television Ad, A 60-Second Piece Entitled “Heroes”

EDWARDS KICKS-OFF “AMERICAN HEROES WEEK” TO STAND UP FOR HARDWORKING AMERICANS
Campaign launches first major ad buy in Iowa, where Edwards commits to fighting for America’s real heroes

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Today, Senator John Edwards kicked off  “American Heroes Week” to highlight his commitment to fighting for the real heroes of America – the men and women whose hard work makes our country great, but who have no voice in Washington. As president, Edwards will stand up to the powerful interests and fight for our real heroes, including  America’s workers, teachers, veterans, soldiers, first responders, and the people of New Orleans.

“American Heroes Week,” which lasts from Thursday, November 1st through Wednesday, November 7th, coincides with the launch of Edwards’ first major television ad, a 60-second piece entitled “Heroes” that begins airing in Iowa today. In the ad, Edwards reaffirms his commitment to honoring and fighting for America’s true heroes – the working men and women of our country. The ad features footage of Edwards speaking at a campaign event interspersed with images of hardworking Americans – including retired Iowan farmers Bill and Helen Barrett, Leslie Gilbert, a working mother of four, and Doug Smith, a proud member of the Steelworkers union in Des Moines.

“If you're looking for heroes, don’t look to me,” Edwards says in the ad. “Don’t look to Elizabeth. We have support. We have health care. We have the American people behind us. Look to them. They are the ones who we speak for. They are the ones that we stand up for. …It is time for our party, the Democratic Party, to show a little backbone, to have a little guts. To stand up for working men and women. If we are not their voice, they will never have a voice.”

On Friday, Edwards will kick-off the week with a visit to South Carolina to highlight the contributions of America’s workers. During the visit to his native state, Edwards will hold a town hall meeting in Cheraw, visit with former employees of the Springs textile mill in Lancaster, and tour a community center in the Blackmon Road community near Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Saturday, Edwards travels to Louisiana to honor the people of New Orleans who have shown great determination and commitment to rebuilding their city. The five winners of an online contest sponsored by the Edwards campaign will join Edwards and other Habitat for Humanity volunteers in New Orleans’ Upper 9th Ward for a day of rebuilding the area devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Later in the day, Edwards will deliver the keynote address on his plan to stop global warming at a National Day of Climate Action rally sponsored by Step it Up in New Orleans.

On Sunday, Edwards returns to eastern Iowa for a series of town hall meetings to highlight the service of America’s teachers. In Iowa on Monday, Edwards will focus on the heroism of America’s soldiers during a major foreign policy speech in Iowa City. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Edwards will travel to New Hampshire to hold events that call attention to the bravery of America’s veterans and first responders.

The launch of this ad builds on Edwards’ growing momentum in Iowa.  He recently reached an important milestone as he became the first candidate to visit – and answer questions from Iowans – in all 99 counties. He also earned the endorsements of the Iowa State Council of the Service Employees International Union and 11 other State Councils across the nation – including, most recently, New Hampshire. This is in addition to the United Steelworkers, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners in America, the Iowa Postal Workers Union, the Transport Workers Union of America, the United Mine Workers of America. He's the only candidate with county chairs for all 99 counties as well as rural county chairs for all 99 counties, and continues to build a strong organization across the state.

A full transcript of the script for the “Heroes” ad is included below. Also included are short biographies of some of the real American heroes pictured in the ad.

Full Transcript of Ad:

If you're looking for heroes, don’t look to me. Don’t look to Elizabeth. We have support. We have health care. We have the American people behind us.

Look to them. They are the ones who we speak for. They are the ones that we stand up for.

And Elizabeth and I decided, in the quiet of a hospital room, after 12 hours of tests and after getting very bad news, what we were going to spend our lives doing, for all those that have no voice.

We’re not going to quietly go away. Instead we’re going to go out and fight for what it is we believe in.

It is time for our party, the Democratic Party, to show a little backbone, to have a little guts. To stand up for working men and women. If we are not their voice they will never have a voice.

I'm John Edwards and I approve this message.

Dodd Campaign Releases Two New Ads Highlighting Dodd's Proven Record Of Results For The American People

DODD CAMPAIGN RELEASES TWO NEW ADS HIGHLIGHTING DODD'S PROVEN RECORD OF RESULTS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

WASHINGTON, DC - The Chris Dodd for President campaign today released two new television ads highlighting Senator Dodd's proven ability to produce results for the American people.

In making the case that Dodd is uniquely qualified to produce results on the nation's most pressing problems like health care, the ads, entitled "View from the Shop" and "Duets," point to his  success in bringing people together to pass landmark legislation like the Family and Medical Leave Act.

“People across Iowa and all of America are frustrated with the bickering and fighting that have defined our recent political history and that have prevented us from solving the big challenges that face the country - like health care,” said Dodd Communications Director Hari Sevugan.  “What sets Chris Dodd apart from the field is that he offers a proven ability to bring people together to produce results.”

The two 30-second spots, which will run in Iowa on cable and broadcast, feature the characters of John and Jesse, two fictional barbers at Jim's barbershop in Winterset, Iowa, who were introduced in Dodd's previous ad.
