Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil: Edwards Democrats Best Choice For Iowa, Nation

COUNCIL BLUFFS DAILY NONPAREIL: EDWARDS DEMOCRATS’ BEST CHOICE FOR IOWA, NATION

Council Bluffs’ daily paper endorses John Edwards for president, says Edwards understands the wants and needs of Iowans as the only candidate with rural roots

Des Moines, Iowa – Today, the Daily Nonpareil of Council Bluffs, Iowa formally endorsed John Edwards for president. This endorsement, from the daily paper in the largest city in southwest Iowa, is a clear sign of Edwards’ growing momentum going into the Iowa caucuses this week.

“Iowans have big voices and strong convictions,” the Daily Nonpareil wrote in its endorsement of Edwards. “We have families and jobs and needs to survive. And we want a leader who understands us, who listens to us and who will do right by us. That leader is John Edwards.

“The son of a textile mill worker, Edwards has a better knowledge of the wants and needs of rural America,” the endorsement continued. “He can relate to the rural culture better than any of the other democratic candidates, as he is the only candidate with rural roots.

“Edwards knows Iowa. He has spent much of his campaign visiting all of our 99 counties and talking WITH, not AT, our residents. We believe John Edwards is the strongest of all the Democratic candidates and the most viable in a presidential election.”

Nashua Telegraph Is 26th New Hampshire Newspaper To Endorse John McCain For President

"McCain is here once again, crisscrossing the Granite State in his Straight Talk Express tour bus, displaying the same integrity, vision and, yes, straight talk ... At a time when some candidates present themselves to voters as something they haven't always been, we find the Arizona senator to be the genuine article. You might not always agree with his answers, but you won't leave a conversation wondering where he stands." -- Nashua Telegraph

Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil Endorses Governor Mitt Romney

THE DAILY NONPAREIL ENDORSES GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY

"Sunday's Our View: Nonpareil Endorses Romney"
The Daily Nonpareil [Council Bluffs, IA]
Editorial
December 30, 2007

"Our Position: Romney excels over all other Republican candidates.

"At no time in recent memory has this nation faced a greater array of formidable, complex and potentially dangerous challenges. The very nature of those complex challenges and the potential means of addressing them is a recipe for divisiveness. As Americans continue their search for a new commander-in-chief, they should search for an individual with vision, intellect and experience.

"In a Republican presidential field that boasts a host of candidates who bring a wide range of talents and experience to the table, we think former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney rises to the top as the best choice to lead his party toward the 2008 election."

Marshalltown Times-Republican Endorses Governor Mitt Romney

TIMES-REPUBLICAN ENDORSES GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY

"Romney Has Proven Record Of Leadership, Plan For Change"
The Times-Republican [Marshalltown, IA]
Editorial
December 30, 2007

"Selecting a president is a huge responsibility. It has been extremely difficult this year for Republicans however since all the candidates have some particular trait that appeals to GOP loyalists but no one seems to be the clear runaway candidate.

"But we think after Republicans finally dissect each of the candidates to determine who they should ultimately vote for, they will determine as we did and Mitt Romney will be their clear choice in the Iowa Caucuses on Jan. 3.

"Romney is the most conservative candidate who is running.

"Romney’s views for a strong military, limited government, lower taxes, free market principles, immigration reform, family values and high ethical standards are what make him appealing to conservative voters and to this newspaper."

Concord Monitor Is 25th New Hampshire Newspaper To Endorse John McCain For President

"Like the gyroscopes that keep ships and planes on course, firm principles and a profound sense of honor guide Sen. John McCain. He learns from his mistakes, but he does not abandon long-held beliefs When McCain approaches a decision, his first battle is with his own conscience. He doesn't put his finger into the political wind but runs against it if need be to do what he thinks is right." -- Concord Monitor
