Kucinich Intensifies Efforts In New Hampshire

Kucinich Intensifies Efforts in New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, NH - The only Democratic presidential contender actively campaigning in the state of New Hampshire, Congressman Dennis Kucinich continues his big push here in the Granite State with efforts across the airwaves and in the field aimed at reaching out to Democratic and independent voters.

Kucinich's first two radio ads, titled "A Real Democrat" and "Vote for Your Health," are being broadcast today in over a dozen stations across the state and throughout the region.

Two corresponding television spots also are set to go up tomorrow, on network and cable. In the ads, Congressman Kucinich looks directly at the camera and challenges the other Democratic candidates on issues of major importance to all Americans, notably healthcare and foreign policy.

This significant media buy comes at a time when a lot of voters are still making up their minds about which candidate to support as Primary Day nears.

The campaign also sent over 200,000 messages via phone to Democratic and independent voters in New Hampshire yesterday.

"It is important for voters to know what I stand for, and that my vision and ideas for the future of our great country includes all Americans," said Kucinich.

Congressman Kucinich will be in New Hampshire through the rest of the week, giving him a few days' head start before the other candidates arrive from Iowa.  His field operation has been ramped up as well: over 300 canvassers are hitting the streets of several New Hampshire burgs this week, including Manchester, Dover, Keene, and Concord.

"We have an opportunity here in New Hampshire in this last week to create genuine excitement among voters looking for a Real Democrat," said Kucinich. "People are finding that I am tough and independent-minded, and that I can't be bought or bossed."

Obama Thanks Kucinich For Encouraging His Backers To Make Obama Their Second Choice

Obama Thanks Kucinich for Encouraging His Backers to Make Obama Their Second Choice

DES MOINES – Senator Barack Obama today thanked Congressman Dennis Kucinich for encouraging his supporters to caucus for Obama as their second choice in the Iowa caucuses.  Obama noted that he and Kucinich both opposed the war in Iraq before it started and are committed to reclaiming the American Dream on behalf of families across the country.

“I have a lot of respect for Congressman Kucinich, and I’m honored that he has done this because we both believe deeply in the need for fundamental change,” said Senator Obama.  “He and I have been fighting for a number of the same priorities -- including an end to the war in Iraq that we both opposed from the start, reforming Washington and creating a better life for America's working families.  I encourage all Iowans to take part in the caucuses this Thursday – not because it will be good for any one candidate, but because it will be good for our party and the future of our country.”

Kucinich Urges Supporters To Back Obama On Second Iowa Ballot

Kucinich Urges Supporters to Back Obama on Second Iowa Ballot

DES MOINES, IA - Democratic Presidential candidate and Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich opened the New Year by publicly asking his Iowa supporters to vote for him in the caucuses this Thursday, and suggesting that if he did not make the 15% threshold, their second ballot should be for Senator Barack Obama. "This is obviously an 'Iowa-only' recommendation, as Sen. Obama and I are competing in the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday where I want to be the first choice of New Hampshire voters.

"I hope Iowans will caucus for me as their first choice this Thursday, because of my singular positions on the war, on health care, and trade. This is an opportunity for people to stand up for themselves. But in those caucus locations where my support doesn't reach the necessary threshold, I strongly encourage all of my supporters to make Barack Obama their second choice. Sen. Obama and I have one thing in common: Change."

Edwards Campaign Runs Ad In The Des Moines Register, Will Begin Airing New TV Spot Featuring Edward's Supporter Doug Bishop

EDWARDS CAMPAIGN RUNS AD IN THE DES MOINES REGISTER, WILL BEGIN AIRING NEW TV SPOT FEATURING EDWARDS’ SUPPORTER DOUG BISHOP

In both ads, former Maytag employee Doug Bishop says John Edwards will fight corporate greed and stand up for middle-class families

Des Moines, Iowa – Today, the John Edwards for President campaign is running a full-page ad in The Des Moines Register featuring a letter from Edwards’ supporter and former Maytag employee Doug Bishop. The campaign will also begin airing a 60-second television spot in Iowa featuring Mr. Bishop tomorrow.

In September 2004, Mr. Bishop was among the first wave of employees laid off at the Maytag plant in Newton, Iowa. In the television spot, Mr. Bishop tells the story of how shortly after he lost his job, he and his family met Edwards as Edwards was campaigning for the vice presidency on the Democratic ticket.

“This is something I’ll never forget,” Mr. Bishop says in the ad. “[John Edwards] grabbed my seven-year-old son by the hand, he dropped to one knee, and he looked him straight in the eye and he said ‘I’m going to keep fighting for your daddy’s job, I promise you that.’ You know, that stuff sticks with you. That’s the kind of things we need in a leader in this country…I want a guy that’s going to sit down and look a seven year-old kid in the eye and tell him ‘I’m going to fight for your dad’s job.’ That’s what I want.”

“I know first hand that if we stay silent, or just go along, or choose more of the same it will be too late,” Mr. Bishop writes to Iowa caucus goers in the letter printed in The Des Moines Register ad. “It is already too late for far too many families who have lost their jobs throughout our state. John Edwards knows what we know – that saving the middle class and American jobs in the face of corporate greed is going to be a fight. I hope you will join our cause of saving the middle class and passing a better life onto our children because that is what is on the line in this election.

The Des Moines Register ad also featured the text of the speech Senator Edwards delivered last Friday in Dubuque defining the type of change America needs.

“To get real change, we need a president who will stand up against the big corporations and powerful interests who control Washington,” Edwards said. “Nobody who takes their money and defends the broken system is going to bring change. And unfortunately, nobody who thinks we can just sit down and talk them into compromise is going to bring change either. Why on earth would we expect the corporate powers and their lobbyists – who make billions by selling out the middle-class – to just give up their power because we ask them nicely?”

Transcript of “Bishop” (60 seconds):

DOUG BISHOP: Now I myself was a former Maytag employee – I was laid off September of 2004.

And I was asked “Would you and your family like to come up and meet Senator Edwards?”

And this is something I’ll never forget – he grabbed my seven-year-old son by the hand, he dropped to one knee, and he looked him straight in the eye and he said “I’m going to keep fighting for your daddy’s job, I promise you that.”

You know, that stuff sticks with you. That’s the kind of things we need in a leader in this country.

Not somebody that’s going to go to a big fundraiser and say “Write me a check for $2,300, and I’ll let you know you have my support.”

I want a guy that’s going to sit down and look a seven year-old kid in the eye and tell him “I’m going to fight for your dad’s job.” That’s what I want.

I’m going to do my best to make sure that my children aren’t the first generation of Americans that I can’t look them in the eye and say “You’re going to have a better life than I had.”

And I think the person that’s going to get that done is my friend, and yours, Senator John Edwards.

EDWARDS: I’m John Edwards and I approve this message.

Ron Paul Supporters Donate Nearly $20 Million In Fourth Quarter

Ron Paul Supporters Donate Nearly $20 Million in Fourth Quarter
Message of freedom, peace and prosperity rallies record support

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA –Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign had a record fundraising quarter, exceeding its original goal of $12 million by over 50 percent when it raised nearly $20 million during the months of October, November and December.

“Only Dr. Paul has the ability to inspire Americans to contribute and take action that is necessary if Republicans want to defeat the Democrats in November,” said campaign chairman Kent Snyder.

In two 24-hour periods on November 5 and December 16, the campaign raised over $10 million dollars.  The total of over $19.5 million represents an increase of nearly 300 percent from its third quarter total of $5.28 million.

For the quarter, the campaign had over 130,000 donors, including over 107,000 new donors.  The total was reached with an average donation size that was just under $90.

Of the other Republican candidates, only Mike Huckabee – who reported $5.04 million this quarter – discloses his fundraising total online.  However, Dr. Paul’s total is over $9 million more than any Republican candidate raised in the third quarter.

Mike Huckabee 2 New TV Ads "Our Values" And "Tax Cuts Matter"

Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee Launches New Television Ads in Iowa, New Hampshire
Campaign Ads Underscore Gov. Huckabee's Conservative Record, Positive Vision for America

Little Rock, AR - Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee launched two new 30-second television ads in Iowa Monday, "Our Values" and "Tax Cuts Matter."

"Our Values" emphasizes Huckabee's conservative record of proven leadership as governor of Arkansas and commitment to issues related to life, family and freedom.  The second television ad, "Tax Cuts Matter," which highlights his fiscally-conservative record, is airing in Iowa and New Hampshire.

"The purpose of these ads is to highlight the things that truly matter - while underscoring my conservative record of leadership and my vision for America moving forward," said Huckabee.

"As we enter the closing days of the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, there are a lot of things being said on television and sent to mailboxes across the Hawkeye state. I urge Iowans to look beyond the rhetoric and seek the truth about my record and optimistic plans for our nation's future.  It is critical that we have an American president who understands our values, and has the experience and knowledge to guide us forward. I believe I am the best candidate for the job, and I'll continue to ask the good people of Iowa for their vote on January 3rd," he said.

Following are scripts of each ad:

"Our Values":30 TV

Gov. Huckabee on Camera: "I'm Mike Huckabee and I approve this message."

Gov. Huckabee on Camera and Voice-over Footage of Gov. Huckabee with Iowans:
"The pro-life position was the one espoused by our Founding Fathers when they said that all of us are created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights. The first one they listed was life.  Nobody has a greater level of intrinsic worth or value than another person.  Being unborn doesn't make you less valuable. Maybe instead of having our values trampled all over every single day and night, we would express to America what those values are:  family, life, freedom - those things matter to us.  Always has, always will."

"Tax Cuts Matter":30 TV

Gov. Huckabee on Camera and Voice-over Graphics: "In a hundred and sixty years in Arkansas , we'd never really had a broad-based, wide-spread tax cut.  I was able to sign the first ever.  The economic policies that we did in my state, cutting taxes, streamlining government, resulted in the largest number of job creations.  I cut taxes over 90 times. Balanced the budget every year I was governor.  Left a surplus of nearly a billion dollars, and did it in the face of an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature.  That's a pretty good record."
