Biden Campaign Issues Statement On Early States Democratic Parties Pledge

BIDEN CAMPAIGN ISSUES STATEMENT ON EARLY STATES DEMOCRATIC PARTIES PLEDGE

Wilmington, DE (August 31, 2007) – The Biden for President Campaign issued the following statement from campaign manager, Luis Navarro, in response to the pledge released by the Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina Democratic Parties.

"It is time to end all the maneuvering around the dates of the early primaries and caucuses. We intend not only to sign the pledge, but to honor our pledge to Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina to respect their primacy to the process,” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro.  “They played by the rules of the DNC. We respect those rules.  The public despises this kind of maneuvering for political advantage. If the Republicans want to play this way, let them. But we will not be a party to it."

Biden Campaign Unveils Another Iowa Endorsement

BIDEN CAMPAIGN UNVIELS ANOTHER IOWA ENDORSEMENT State Rep. Doris Kelley Joins a Growing List of Legislative Endorsers; Calls Biden Tenacious, Experienced

Des Moines, IA (August 21, 2007) – Following a successful week-long campaign trip through central and eastern Iowa, ending with a “packed house” [Iowa Press-Citizen 8/21/07] in Iowa City, along with a standout performance in the ABC News/ Iowa Democratic Party debate, the Biden for President Campaign announced today the endorsement of another Iowa legislator, State Representative Doris Kelley of Waterloo.

“I have carefully evaluated each and every one of the candidates in this race, and it is clear that Senator Biden’s experience, candidness and tenacity are qualities required to lead our country,” said State Rep. Kelley. “We need a strong leader who has extensive background in foreign policy and an impeccable reputation for his ability to cooperatively work with foreign leaders and other officials. And most of all, we need a leader who will end the war in Iraq responsibly.”

Joe Biden is the only candidate in either party to offer a detailed political solution which would allow us to withdraw our troops without leaving chaos behind. He has dedicated the past year advocating for a decentralized, federal system in Iraq, with extensive powers for the regions and limited powers for the central government -- as the Iraqi Constitution calls for.

“We’re so pleased to have Doris join the Biden team,” said Biden for President Iowa State Director Bill Romjue. “As a leader in the Cedar Valley area, Doris is well-known for her commitment to public service. Her dedication to moving Iowa forward is a welcome addition to our Iowa team”

State Rep. Kelly joins a growing list of Iowa legislators supporting Sen. Joe Biden. To date State Sen. Joe Seng (Davenport), Rep. Lisa Heddens (Ames), Rep. Jim Lykam (Davenport), Rep. Mike Reasoner (Creston), and Rep. Dick Taylor (Cedar Rapids) all have said they support Joe Biden and trust him with the future of our country.

Biden Issues Statement On Michigan’s Effort To Move Up In The Primary Calendar

BIDEN ISSUES STATEMENT ON MICHIGAN’S EFFORT TO MOVE UP IN THE PRIMARY CALENDAR

Wilmington, DE (August 21, 2007) -- Before departing Iowa after a weeklong stay, Senator Joe Biden today issued the following statement regarding the attempt by Michigan to circumvent the primary calendar and move its date to January 15, 2008.

“Powerful interests are trying to change the Democratic nomination for President into a game of Monopoly, replacing the retail politics of Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire with a process in which the only credential necessary to be President is to be the wealthiest candidate.

Under the current calendar, voters can regularly meet candidates in their homes, town halls and diners.  This provides an almost one on one opportunity to hold candidates accountable for their ideas and records for solving the most pressing issues facing this country.  The communities of Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire provide a diverse array of voters and a level playing field for candidates to compete in, as a lead up to the larger states which will decide who the next Democratic nominee will be for President.

I call upon all of my fellow Democratic candidates to reaffirm their support for the retail role Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire and publicly ask their supporters, such as Democratic Senate Leader Mark Schauer, and Governor Granholm to oppose any attempts to break the Democratic National Committee’s “calendar window” as Republicans did in Florida on behalf of Mitt Romney.”

"I carry the promise of America in my heart, where my parents placed it," said Edwards.  "Because of them, I believe in people, hard work and the American Dream.  I believe the future belongs to us if we only dare to seize it. And I believe to seize it, we must blaze a new path, firmly grounded in the values that first made America great. On that new path lies One America, where possibility is unbound and opportunity the birthright of every American. Where the voices of the people are heard again in the halls of government, and government heeds their call. One America, where every individual takes responsibility for our common good, and the chance to reach one's God-given potential is every individual's common right. I am the son of Wallace and Bobbie Edwards.  And I believe in the promise of America."

Biden Once Again Commands The Stage At ABC Debate

BIDEN ONCE AGAIN COMMANDS THE STAGE AT ABC DEBATE Campaign Also Debuts First TV Ads in Iowa

Des Moines, IA (August 19th, 2007) – At this morning’s ABC/Iowa Democratic Party debate at Drake University in Des Moines, Sen. Joe Biden once again displayed presidential leadership and showed clearly why he is the best candidate to lead the country out of Iraq without leaving chaos behind.

“Joe Biden continues to show that he is the only candidate who has the right experience among the field and a true understanding of all the critical issues, especially Pakistan and Iraq, necessary to lead this country into what is bound to be an incredibly difficult decade,” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. “He is the truth-teller about the war in Iraq and he will continue to focus his efforts on bringing our troops safely without leaving chaos behind. This morning we saw many on the stage utter the words ‘Joe is right’ in one form or another.”

This morning, the Biden Campaign also launched its first television ads, a 30-second ad entitled “Cathedral”, which debuted during the debate on ABC and a 60-second ad, entitled “Security”, which will begin airing today on all major networks in Iowa.

In “Cathedral”, Sen. Biden recounts a story from one of his seven trips to Iraq, during which he found himself on a C-130 transport plane with a flag-draped coffin. Sen. Biden describes the sacred commitment he felt to our troops during that moment. That moment manifested itself in Sen. Biden’s successful effort in Congress earlier this year to secure funding for new mine resistant vehicles for our troops in Iraq.

In “Security”, Sen. Biden lays out the case for why his leadership qualities and life experiences prepare him to be Commander-In-Chief and President of the United States. The current campaign is scheduled to run through Labor Day weekend at a cost of approximately a quarter of a million dollars.

"Two for One": Richardson The Candidate Of Change And Experience

"Two for One": Richardson the Candidate of Change and Experience at Iowa Presidential Debate

Richardson challenges opponents with a plan to get all American troops out of Iraq with no residual forces left behind

DES MOINES, IA -- Bolstered by growing support in Iowa, Governor Bill Richardson participated in the second DNC-sanctioned Presidential debate this morning in Des Moines, Iowa. The debate was moderated by George Stephanopoulos of ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos and David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register.

"Senator Obama provides change and Senator Clinton experience. With me, you get both," Governor Richardson stated. "We're going to need change to become energy independent. We're going to need experience to deal with foreign leaders. I've met already with most of them. All my life I've been a diplomat and from day one I will be ready."

During the debate, Governor Richardson's plan to leave no residual forces behind dominated the discussion on Iraq.

"I have a plan to end this war," Richardson said. "We have to get all our troops out. Our kids are dying, our troops have become targets. We need reconciliation among the three groups, a division of oil revenues, and an all-Muslim peacekeeping force headed by the UN. None of this peacekeeping begins until all of our troops are out. It's critically important that we do this by an orderly timetable. In the Iraq war, through Kuwait, we have moved, over three-month periods, approximately 250,000 of our troops into and out of Iraq. We could move them out through roads to Kuwait. We could move them out through roads to Turkey. We can do this negotiating with the Turks."

Generals and experts agree with Richardson. Once the war is de-authorized and withdrawal begins, all our troops can be redeployed from Iraq in a quick, orderly, and effective manner.

"When a President talks about foreign policy, a President has to be clear," Richardson said. "You can never take the military option off the table. The Bush administration has relied on the military option, preemption. America needs to find ways that it can get its allies to aid in the fight against terrorism."

As the most vocal presidential candidate on the issue of education Richardson reiterated his proposal of a minimum wage for our teachers of $40,000.

"I have a one point plan for No Child Left Behind, as I do for Iraq - scrap it," Richardson stated. "Once again we need to be number one in Math and Science. I would have full-day kindergarten. I would revise our high school curriculum to include arts-in-the-schools."

"This is the Katrina of the mortgage lending industry," Richardson stated in response to a question about the current mortgage crisis. "What we need is more transparency. What we need to do is not appoint officials in the industry to regulate the industry. George Bush has shown a total lack of leadership, a total lack of competence. I strongly support additional measures to increase transparency and build firewalls between credit raters and financial institutions. I have a strong record in New Mexico both on cracking down on unscrupulous lenders and in leading on affordable housing issues. And that is what we have lacked in the last six years, and especially in the last couple weeks on this threat to our economy -- leadership."

James Mowrer to Head Iowa Veterans For Biden Committee

IRAQ WAR VETERAN JAMES MOWRER TO HEAD IOWA VETERANS FOR BIDEN COMMITTEE

Des Moines, Iowa (August 9, 2007) – The Biden for President Campaign today announced that James D. Mowrer, who recently returned from a 16-month mission in Iraq, has been named the Iowa Coordinator of Veterans for Biden.

“I chose to work for Senator Biden so that the troops still in Iraq will have the best Commander in Chief possible upon inauguration in January 2009,” said Mowrer, a Boone native who now lives in Des Moines.  “Sen. Biden has the most comprehensive and realistic plan to exit Iraq without leaving the region in mass disorder.”

Mowrer’s appointment was announced by National Coordinator of Veterans for Biden J. B. White.

“Sen. Biden’s unwavering commitment to keeping our troops safe by his leadership in funding the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles sets him apart from the other Democratic presidential candidates,” said White, also an Iraq war veteran.  “He is the only one who stood up for our brothers and sisters still in Iraq on that crucial vote back in May, and that’s why veterans and their family members will stand up for him at the caucuses in January.”

Joe Biden At The AFL-CIO Presidential Forum

BIDEN SHINES AT AFL-CIO FORUM Commits to Fight for America’s Workers as President

Chicago, IL (August 7, 2007) – During this evening’s AFL-CIO Presidential Forum at Soldier Field in Chicago, Sen. Joe Biden stood head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field, pointing to his long record of working for labor’s interests and reiterating his commitment to reinvigorate the union movement that built the middle class in America.

During the 90-minute forum, Sen. Biden pledged that starting on Day One as President of the United States, he will end the war the Bush Administration has waged on labor.

“The war in Iraq is not the only war this President has waged” said Sen. Biden. “He has waged a reckless war on labor’s house – the house that built the middle-class and the house that built our neighborhoods.”

Sen. Biden has been leading the fight for organized labor his entire career -- including serving as  co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act, fighting for better labor and environmental standards in trade agreements and opposing new trade agreements that don’t meet high standards, just to name a few. See the attached document to view Sen. Biden’s Record on Labor.

“This upcoming election could very well be the most important election in the history of organized labor since 1932.  This could be the year when a friend of organized labor takes back the White House and the White House begins to speak again for the middle class” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. “We need a Democrat who can win a general election and deliver results when he or she gets there – and that Democrat is Joe Biden.”
