Statement By Governor Ted Strickland

Statement By Governor Ted Strickland

"Hillary Clinton showed Ohioans again tonight why she is uniquely qualified to be president and begin turning our economy around on her first day in office. Hillary is the fighter, the doer and the champion Ohio's working families need. No one is better prepared to deliver quality, affordable health care for every American and lead our country as commander in chief."

Hillary's Reviews Are In: Democratic Debate At Cleveland State, Cleveland, Ohio

Hillary's Reviews Are In: ‘A Strong New Note,’ ‘Effective Tone,’ ‘A Solid Body Blow’

NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell –Hillary ‘came across very credibly, very strongly as a fighter.’ [MSNBC post-debate analysis, 2/26/08]

NBC News’ Domenico Montaro – ‘That was a solid body blow by Clinton on Obama not holding a single hearing on Afghanistan.’ “That was a solid body blow by Clinton on Obama not holding a single hearing on Afghanistan despite that he talks about it being the front line on terrorism and that he chairs the subcommittee on Europe, which oversees NATO. While Obama's explanation may be realistic -- that he became chair at the beginning of his campaign -- doesn't it reinforce Hillary and Bill Clinton's points that he is inexperienced, that he has only been in the Senate for a limited time and hasn't cut his teeth yet. Doesn't that play right into the inexperience narrative quite well?” [MSNBC First Read, 2/26/08]

ABC News’ Rick Klein – ‘It does seem like Clinton has settled on an effective tone this evening.’  “That silly distraction of an SNL reference aside -- it does seem like Clinton has settled on an effective tone this evening. She's mixing substance with style, attacking without seeming overtly negative, sounding like she's playing defense when she's really playing offense.” [ABC News Political Radar, 2/26/08]

The Swamp's Jason George – 'Clinton strikes a new strong note, saying she plans to get $55 billion back from special interest groups for the American middle class.' [Chicago Tribune’s The Swamp, 2/26/08]

NBC News’ David Gregory said Hillary’s ‘answer on having to be a fighter on health care is her strong suit.’ “Senator Clinton the fighter. This answer on having to be a fighter on health care is her strong suit. Her point in lampooning Obama's high-flying oratory is to say, I, too, had only the highest ideals about public service in Washington. But I know through experience, you need different tactics. This is her experience argument.” [MSNBC First Read, 2/26/08]

MyDD’s Todd Beeton – Hillary’s ‘I’m a fighter’ line was ‘one of her best selling points.’ "Hillary Clinton: "I'm a fighter." One of her best selling points, especially against Obama." [MyDD.com, 2/26/08]

Ohio Daily Blog – ‘Clinton did well with Russert's question about her 2000 pledge about creating jobs in Buffalo.’ [Ohio Daily Blog, 2/26/08]

WCPO Radio’s Dan Walthrip – ‘Hillary Clinton certainly claimed ownership of the word 'universal' in terms of healthcare.’ [WKYC post-debate analysis, 2/26/08]

Clinton Campaign Unveils Four New Ads Across Ohio & Texas

Clinton Campaign Unveils Four New Ads Across Ohio & Texas

The Clinton campaign today unveiled four new ads across Ohio and Texas.
The 60-second ad called “Resolved” is airing in both Ohio and Texas.
“Deliver,” a 30-second ad, is airing across Texas.
“Proud” and “Level,” both 30-second ads, are airing in Ohio.

See below for the full scripts of the ads.

1. “Resolved”

TV :60

Hillary Clinton:  I was honored to be asked to speak at the opening of the Intrepid Center at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio.  And I remember sitting up there and watching them come in. Those who could walk were walking, those who had lost limbs were trying with great courage to get themselves in without the help of others.

You know, the hits I've taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country.  And I resolved, at a very young age, that I'd been blessed, and that I was called by my faith and by my upbringing to do what I could to give others the same opportunities and blessings that I took for granted.  That's what gets me up in the morning, that's what motivates me in this campaign.

Hillary Clinton: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

2. “Deliver”

TV :30

Announcer: In Texas, when there's work to be done, talk doesn't cut it.

You got to roll up your sleeves, stand your ground and deliver.

That's what Hillary Clinton does.

She's fought for and delivered coverage for uninsured children, healthcare

and dignity for our veterans, and better schools and better teachers.

In Texas its better done than said. And when its all said and done,

Hillary delivers.

Hillary Clinton: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

3. “Proud”
TV :30

John Glenn: Hillary and I both come from middle class families in the
middle of America.

As long as Annie and I have known her, Hillary's fought for working people.

She'll end 55 billion dollars in giveaways to corporate special interest and invest that money to create jobs in research and innovation to rebuild the middle class.

And Hillary will fight to change trade deals like NAFTA. She's been doing that for years.

I'll be proud to call Hillary my president.

Hillary Clinton: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

4. “Level”

TV :30

Announcer: She's fighting for America's middle class.

Hillary Clinton: It's time to level the playing field against the special interests.

Announcer: She'll end $55 billion dollars in giveaways to corporate special interests and invest it in middle class tax cuts and creating new jobs.

She'll get tough on unfair trade deals and end tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas.

Hillary Clinton: Standing up for people who weren't getting a fair shake, that's been the purpose of my life. And it will be the purpose of my presidency.

Hillary Clinton: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

Hillary's Reviews Are In: Texas Democratic Debate

Hillary's Reviews Are In: 'Standing Ovation,' 'Really Scored,' 'A Stronger Performance'

CNN's Campbell Brown notes a 'standing ovation' in response to Hillary's closing remarks. [CNN Univision debate, 2/21/08]

CNN political analyst David Gergen - Hillary's last statement 'was the most effective moment she's had on television, I believe, since the New Hampshire primary… [Hillary] really scored on that.' [CNN post-debate analysis, 2/21/08]

Politico's Ben Smith - 'Clinton's answer was a stronger performance.' "Clinton's answer was a stronger performance; Obama seems like he's about ready to get out of here." [Politico, Ben Smith, 2/21/08]

CNN's Bill Schneider - Hillary 'just made an effective argument against John McCain.' "Clinton just made an effective argument against John McCain: Though the Arizona senator is a champion against wasteful spending, Clinton pointed to his support for the Bush tax cuts and the war in Iraq - both colossal expenditures unpopular with most Democrats." [CNN Political Ticker, 2/21/08]

NBC News' Chuck Todd - Hillary 'had a couple of very good moments on health care and the economy.' "Did she potentially win this debate on points; I think so; it was close but she had a couple of VERY good moments on health care and the economy that probably scored well in the various focus groups of undecided voters watching this debate." [MSNBC First Read, 2/21/08]

New Republic's Michael Crowley - 'The subject of health care always brings out a formidable passion and policy fluency in Hillary.' "So much of the time politicians just seem to be going through the motions when debating the issues. But the subject of health care always brings out a formidable passion and policy fluency in Hillary. People can call her a phony for all kinds of reasons but it's clear she really gets and cares about this stuff." [New Republic, The Stump, 2/21/08]

ABC News' Rick Klein - Hillary 'sounds calm, in charge, deliberate.' [ABC News, Political Radar, 2/21/08]

MyDD's Todd Beeton - 'Hillary Clinton just hit that closing response out of the park.' "Hillary Clinton just hit that closing response out of the park." [MyDD, 2/21/08]

Statement From Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson On Tonight's Texas Debate

"What we saw in the final moments in that debate is why Hillary Clinton is the next President of the United States. Her strength, her life experience, her compassion. She's tested and ready. It was the moment she retook the reins of this race and showed women and men why she is the best choice."

Hillary Gives Vermonters A "Voice" In New TV Ad

Hillary Gives Vermonters a "Voice" in New TV Ad
Campaign Hits the Airwaves Statewide with First Green Mountain State Ad

The Clinton campaign launched a new television ad in Vermont today highlighting Hillary Clinton’s commitment to giving a voice to American families struggling in our troubled economy to obtain quality, affordable health care, invest in alternative energy and green jobs, realize the dream of home ownership, and give their children the future they deserve.

"Hillary Clinton is not only qualified and experienced, but she also represents real change for Vermonters," said Former Governor Madeleine Kunin. "Throughout her 35 year career advocating on behalf of working families, Hillary has spoken out for Americans without a voice. As President, Hillary will fight for real solutions to the problems facing Vermonters.

The new 30-second spot, titled "Vermont Voice," highlights Hillary Clinton’s promise to continue her 35-year record of delivering real change that improves the daily lives of working Americans - giving a voice to children without health care, troops without body armor, and families facing foreclosures.

A complete transcript of "Vermont Voice" is included below.

Clinton: In this troubled economy...

How can so many millions of people...
...simply not be heard?

Well, I hear you.

You’re asking for healthcare that covers everyone.

Protection from losing your home

You would like to fill your tank without draining your wallet

And give your kids the future they deserve

If I am your president, I will bring more than 35 years of experience to the White House.

I will bring your voice.

Announcer: It’s about People.

Clinton: I’m Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Statement From Hillary Clinton On Fidel Castro

Statement From Hillary Clinton On Fidel Castro

“As you know, Fidel Castro announced that he is stepping down as Cuba's leader after 58 years of one-man rule.  The new leadership in Cuba will face a stark choice—continue with the failed policies of the past that have stifled democratic freedoms and stunted economic growth—or take a historic step to bring Cuba into the community of democratic nations. The people of Cuba want to seize this opportunity for real change and so must we.

“I would say to the new leadership, the people of the United States are ready to meet you if you move forward towards the path of democracy, with real, substantial reforms.  The people of Cuba yearn for the opportunity to get out from under the weight of this authoritarian regime, which has held back 11 million talented and hardworking citizens of the Americas.  The new government should take this opportunity to release political prisoners and to take serious steps towards democracy that give their people a real voice in their government.

“The American people have been on the side in the Cuban people's struggle for freedom and democracy in the past and we will be on their side for democracy in the future.

“As President, I will engage our partners in Latin America and Europe who have a strong stake in seeing a peaceful transition to democracy in Cuba, and who want very much for the United States to play a constructive role to that end.  The United States must pursue an active policy that does everything possible to advance the cause of freedom, democracy and opportunity in Cuba.

“The events of the past three days, including elections in Pakistan and Kosovo's declaration of independence, are a vivid illustration of people around the world yearning for democracy and opportunity.  We need a President with the experience to recognize and seize these opportunities to advance America’s values and interests around the world.  I will be that President.”

Clinton Campaign Responds To New Obama Ad In Wisconsin

CLINTON CAMPAIGN RESPONDS TO NEW OBAMA AD IN WISCONSIN

The Clinton campaign today released the following response to the new Obama campaign TV ad currently being aired in Wisconsin:

"This ad makes clear why Sen. Obama doesn't want to have a one-on-one debate with Sen. Clinton in Wisconsin,” Kathleen Falk, Dane County Executive said. “He doesn't want people to know that his health care plan leaves 15 million people out. He doesn't want people to know that Sen. Clinton's plan cuts health care costs more aggressively. And he certainly doesn't want people to know that the most authoritative source he can find to validate his housing plan is a story quoting his own campaign."
