JOHN MCCAIN 2008 LAUNCHES RADIO AD IN MICHIGAN AND SOUTH CAROLINA: "MIKE CHRISTIAN'S STORY"
ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today launched a new radio ad in Michigan and South Carolina. The ad, entitled "Mike Christian's Story," is the story of John McCain's cellmate as a POW, Mike Christian, and highlights McCain's commitment to defending America.
"Mike Christian's Story" will run on Michigan and South Carolina radio beginning today.
Script for "Mike Christian's Story" (:60-Radio)
JOHN MCCAIN: Like me, my fellow POW Mike Christian was shot down and captured in Vietnam.
This is John McCain. I want to share with you Mike Christian's courageous story.
As his cellmate, I watched Mike collect pieces of red and white cloth and with a bamboo needle sew an American flag on the inside of his blue prison shirt.
Every afternoon, my fellow POWs and I would recite the Pledge of Allegiance to Mike's Flag.
No other event of the day held as much meaning for us.
The prison guards discovered Mike's flag, an offense for which he was beaten severely. After he was returned to the cell, I saw him, badly beaten with his eyes nearly swollen shut, with a piece of white cloth and a piece of red cloth sewing another American flag.
As president I will never waver in our fight to defend America so that the sacrifices of great Americans like Mike Christian are not made in vain.
This is John McCain and I approve this message.
