"I intend to be a candidate for the Presidency of the United States in 1988.   And I do so for one single reason -- I love my country.    America is not an abstraction.  It’s 250 million human beings -- united by common geography, history, and heritage.

I make this race because I love my country and I want America to do better and to move forward.  And I believe -- with the assistance and support of the American people -- I can help lead America toward its future -- and to achieve its promise, its destiny, and its ideal.   Thank you very much."

"Standing there gazing across those peaceful fields I thought of why it is critical to have a president who knows what made America great, who knows what has been sacrificed to keep us free, and who would do all in his power to lead America back to her place in the sun.

My friends, I have the experience. I've been tested, tested in many ways. I am not afraid to lead, and I know the way. Let us rein in our government to set the spirit of the American people free. Let us renew our moral convictions and strengthen our families by returning to fundamental values. Together, let us reassert our rightful place as a great nation.

We should do it for ourselves -- we owe it to our children. We must act to be worthy of the gift our ancestors sacrificed so much for: to ensure the next century will dawn on a new beginning of American greatness ... prosperity ... and freedom. 2008 Republican National Convention Dates Announced

RNC Announces 2008 Republican National Convention Dates

Washington, D.C. – The Republican National Committee announced its decision to hold the 2008 Republican National Convention Monday, September 1st through Thursday, September 4th.

"Our next nominee for President will enjoy the benefit of an exciting and dynamic national convention. The Site Selection Committee is hard at work to make sure that happens and I am confident that we will host an event that all Republicans will be proud of," RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman said.

The deadline for official convention bids is May 22, 2006, and the RNC remains open to bids from all cities. The Site Selection Committee will decide on a list of finalist cities by mid-summer of 2006. The Committee plans to visit only those finalist cities in August and expects to make a final selection on the host city no later than February 1, 2007.
